A British Trading Partner with Deep European Roots

Baltrawed UK Limited (BTW UK) is the British subsidiary of BalTraWed OÜ, an Estonian company with extensive experience in international trade, supply chain management and consumer goods across European markets.

Our parent company, BalTraWed OÜ, specialises in the full-cycle management of international supply chains — from sourcing and quality control through to logistics, warehousing and delivery. With deep-rooted partnerships across Europe and Africa, and a logistics hub in Amsterdam, BalTraWed brings world-class procurement expertise to the BTW UK operation.

BTW UK was established to bring the finest products from our European portfolio to British distributors, pub groups and the wider UK food and beverage trade. Our primary focus is the importation and distribution of Podkovan beer from the Czech Republic — a brewery in which BalTraWed holds a major shareholding — alongside a portfolio of premium cocoa products.

We are members of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and operate to the highest standards of quality, traceability and ethical sourcing — principles that underpin everything we do.

Podkovan — A Legend of Czech Brewing

Nestled in a picturesque valley in the Central Bohemia region of the Czech Republic, Pivovar Podkovan is one of the country's oldest and most celebrated independent breweries. BTW UK is the exclusive UK importer, bringing these authentic Czech lagers and ales to British distributors and on-trade customers.

The brewery's remarkable character stems from its commitment to tradition. Brewers here have passed down the open-tank brewing technique from generation to generation — a method that produces a beer genuinely unlike anything produced in a modern, industrialised facility. The naturally low temperatures of the valley site serve as a natural conditioning environment, preserving the unmatched character of every batch.

Brewed with water from a 300-metre underground spring — unfiltered and untreated. Certified as 'Water for Children' quality.

Open-Tank Brewing

A centuries-old open-tank technique, handed down through generations. Gives Podkovan its distinctive, truly Czech character.

A classic light lager with a light, golden colour and a clean, smooth taste. The aroma is subtle — notes of malt with a slight hint of hops — leading to a delicate balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Light and effervescent on the palate, with a crisp finish that leaves a gentle bitterness on the tongue. A perfect representation of the Czech brewing tradition, and an excellent choice for any occasion.

A rich and complex dark lager with a deep, near-black colour drawn from roasted malt. The aroma opens with caramel, chocolate and a hint of coffee. On the palate, a rich malt character with gentle sweetness, balanced by subtle hop bitterness and a light smokiness. The finish is smooth and lingering. Full-bodied and flavourful, yet approachable — a true showcase of the Czech dark lager tradition.

BTW UK is currently focused on the distribution of Podkovan beer supplied in Pertainer format — a premium one-way, single-use draught container that delivers fresh Czech lager without the cost and complexity of traditional returnable kegs. Pertainers require no deposit, no return logistics and no keg tracking, making them an ideal solution for UK trade buyers seeking simplicity and flexibility.

As a fully recyclable container, the Pertainer also supports sustainability goals for operators looking to reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on quality. Each unit arrives ready to connect and serve — with no cleaning, no exchange programme and no hidden costs.

Pertainers are compatible with all standard coupler types. The UK market predominantly uses Grundy and Sankey fittings, both of which are fully supported, as are European coupler systems — making Podkovan in Pertainer a genuinely universal product for the British on-trade.
